Livin’ the dream in Thailand: 62 days in eight minutes (video)

Online English lessons

I’m Vytautas Bruzas, ages 24, and my lady is Julija Padagaite, also 24. I’m an online entrepreneur: basically, I need a good computer, big screen and fresh head, and I can work from almost anywhere. Julija is a massage therapist. We’re both from Lithuania and now we live in Klaipeda, a harbour city on the Baltic Sea coast. Our country is a beautiful place, but weather is not beautiful at all. This is one of the reasons I decided to visit in Thailand. During my younger days, I had dreamed about travelling: about good weather, beautiful places, white beaches and clear, blue water.

We chose Thailand because the weather is good all year; it’s not too expensive to live; the country boasts forests, beaches, mountains, seas, national parks, underwater worlds, rivers and jungles, and the food is delicious.

We landed in Bangkok, where we spent out first four nights. We visited some temples, tried different food in the local markets, did some shopping, walked through parks and went to Above Eleven, a nice place to chill and enjoy the view.

Exploring Koh Samui by motorcycle

Then we moved to Koh Samui, which was home for the next 15 nights – and, at some point, will be home again, we hope. Here we rented motorcycles and did all of our exploring on two wheels, taking in beaches, ladyboy shows, Ang Thong National Marine Park, more temples and Buddha statues, and breathtaking natural viewpoints, some of which could be seen from the balcony of our room in the Grand Hill Residence.

After three unremarkable nights on Koh Phangan, we moved on for the next 14 nights to the awesome Pelican Residence & Suite Krabi, receiving an unexpected upgrade to a room with private pool as we arrived. How cool is that?!

Finding Nemo on the Phi Phi islands

The best part of our stay in Krabi was a one-day trip to the Phi Phi islands: an amazing experience! I would definitely stay longer next time. We went snorkelling and the water was so clear we could see all sorts of tropical fish, including Nemo [Ocellaris Clownfish].

Then we took a taxi to Phuket, where we had booked an apartment via airbnb.com for two weeks. We loved Phuket. Here, there’s nothing you want that you can’t find: action, beautiful beaches (especially Nai Harn Beach and Freedom Beach), parties, tranquility, nature, and Buddhism in all its gilded glory. We can’t wait to return.

Our next few nights were spent in Pattaya, perhaps most famous for its prostitutes and ladyboys: not the sort of place we’d recommend for couples or families, although we did manage to have some fun at Cartoon Network Amazone. It was time to return to Bangkok for our final two nights and then, after a total of 62 days travelling at a cost of almost US$6,000, our flight home to Lithuania.

By the time we got back to Lithuania, I had amassed about 200GB of raw footage so it took a while to do the editing and make the movie, but it was worth it. I want to share this video because I think it can inspire people to travel, to visit Thailand, and to capture special moments, the beauty of nature, and the world’s most spectacular places. In my opinion, video is better than photographs because you remember everything more clearly; it feels as though you’re there. Enjoy!
