00:41 | Large numbers of Thais continue to visit the royal crematorium exhibition at Sanam Luang in tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Between November 2 and December 17 more than 3.2 million people visited the site.

01:47 | Deputy prime minister Dr Wissanu Krea-ngam said yesterday that the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) may recommend utilising Article 44 of the Interim Constitution to solve the problems of political parties preparing for the national election next year.

Meanwhile, Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), has revealed that there have been some requests for an amendment of the Political Party Act to extend the time to work on the membership database updates required while the NCPO is not ready to lift its ban on political activities.

02:56 | The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) committee has hosted a seminar to discuss the roles and responsibilities of local administrative organisations to improve the children and youth development system and avoid duplication of effort.

04:31 | The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved revisions to the application requirements to expand coverage to more business categories and agreed to extend its assistance programmes, including tax exemptions and deductions, as well as additional benefits for SMEs operating in low-income provinces, until December 30, 2019.

The expanded parameters increases the number of business categories able to apply for assistance from 40 to more than 100.

05:50 | The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS) to monitor against public health threats in Bangkok and other urban areas.

07:39 | The Meteorological Department (MD) has reported that a high pressure systems from China will descend on northern Thailand from December 19-21, causing the temperature to drop by 3-5C.

Meanwhile, the southern region will continue to be pounded by heavy rains and gusty winds, with fishermen advised to stay ashore.

10:32 | The government is holding a second Pracharat Rak Samakkee seminar aimed at bringing the private and public sectors together to exchange knowledge and suggestion on how to develop the rural community. Pracharat Rak Samakkee is a government initiative focused on improving rural communities with a focus on agriculture, textile, and community based tourism.

12:53 | The Royal Thai Police (RTP) is strengthening security ahead of the upcoming New Year’s holidays between December 25 and January 3, 2018 with additional patrols, the introduction of a mobile application, Police Alert You, as well as a channel on Line Messenger, for distributing security alerts or receiving information.

13:53 | Newsline takes a look at the State Railway of Thailand’s (SRT) efforts at improving the number of train services and passenger capacity to cater to the increased demand over the New Year’s holidays. SRT plans to add 14 special train services and add more carriages to bring daily capacity up to 120,000 people per day.

17:18 | Newsline takes a look at Thailand’s economic progress following the release of the Performance of East Asia Economies report by the World Bank which grouped Thailand in the ‘Progressively Prosperous’ bracket.

20:44 | Panpimon Chunyanuwat, director of the Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA), has told a media briefing that the agency has set aside Bt1 billion (about US$30 million) to support agricultural research in 2018. Ms Chunyanuwat said that in 2017 Arda had been ranked first among 52 public organisations and third out of 422 government agencies for transparency and integrity.

25:40 | The Public Relations Department (PRD) has hosted the 6th Thai-Chinese radio broadcast technicians meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and increasing radio programme and personal sharing. The two parties also agreed to develop a Thai-Chinese mobile application next year.
