• Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has presided over a ceremony to erect the main pillar of the Royal Crematorium being constructed at Sanam Luang in front of the Grand Palace in Bangkok for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej who died last October 13.

• Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has nullified the previous environmental and health impact studies on impacts from the controversial proposed Krabi coal-fired power station, ordering new studies to be undertaken in the name of transparency.

• US Ambassador to Thailand Glyn Davies has met with Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan on the occasion of 200 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and to discuss the recent Cobra Gold military exercise which involved the participation of 28 countries.

• High level science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) skills are imperative if Thais are going to be able to meet the challenges of the 21st-century and Thailand’s Ministry of Education is including increasing STEM content into the national education system.

• The Yala Islamic Committee will hold a number of events in 14 southern provinces between March 5 and 14 to celebrate the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday (Mawlid).
