00:38 | Thais continue to flock to the Grand Palace in remembrance of the late king Bhumibol Adulyadej. In Nong Khai Province and the Phitsanulok Province capitals, members of the public gathered to make sandalwood flowers for the late king’s royal cremation ceremony on October 26.

02:02 | The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (Mac) is launching a project to help local producers improve the quality of their crops through the late king’s agricultural development theories and modern technologies. Communities will receive Bt2.5 million (about US$73,637) funding for the project to help farmers improve their crops by July 15, with the campaign to be completed in three months.

03:28 | Pattani Province has held a mass ordination ceremony for Thai Sikhs of Indian descent. The ceremony was part of an initiative to ensure that each Buddhist temple in the province has five monks as well as a way to honour the late king and the dowager Queen Sirikit.

04:50 | Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has announced that preparations for the royal cremation ceremony, including the construction of the crematorium and funeral rehearsals, will be completed in September.

05:50 | National Legislative Assembly (NLA) President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai has dismissed politicians’ allegations that lawmakers are stalling organic bills and postponing the general election. Mr Wichitcholchai pointed out that the NLA had already approved two of the ten organic bills they are required to draft and enact before the general election.

09:15 | The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) has stated that members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) cannot run for a second term, as the current constitution forbids members of independent agencies such as the NHRC from doing so.

10:15 | The government will hold public forums in Bangkok, Phitsanulok, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Nakhon Si Thammarat between July 18 and 21 to inform Thai citizens about, and collect their opinions on, the recently-drafted Social Contract for National Unity and Reconciliation.

11:23 | NBT World takes a closer look at recent measures to help modernise the farming sector, which generates 10 per cent of Thailand’s GDP.

14:45 | The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is instructing its 437 schools that are currently not bilingual to become so, in addition to instructing them to adopt educational technology in line with the Thailand 4.0 policy. There are currently 24 bilingual schools operated by the BMA.

16:02 | Chiang Mai human rights activist Weerawan Mosby has been named a ‘TIP Report Hero Acting to End Modern Slavery’. The US Department of State bestows the award on activists working to eradicate human trafficking.

17:15 | Thailand and Bhutan recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) promoting religious tourism in both kingdoms. NBT World examines the continuing developments in cooperation between the two nations.
