00:38 | Phitsanulok Technical College and Sing Buri province have held workshops making sandalwood flowers in the shape of daffodils for the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s cremation ceremony in October.
01:40 | Deputy Prime Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn has reported that the construction of structures for the late king’s cremation ceremony is 56.3 per cent complete. One structure, the Rachentharayan Palaquin, is 80 per cent complete and will be finished this month.
03:22 | The Public Relations Department (PRD) and the Television Pool of Thailand have met to discuss plans for the broadcast coverage of the late king’s funeral.
04:37 | The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has approved the proposed Executive Decree on the Management of Migrant Workers B.E. 2560, which is meant to resolve loopholes in existing laws pertaining to migrant workers. However, some NLA members expressed concern over the harsh punishments contained in the new law.
06:15 | Constitutional Drafting Commission (CDC) Chairman Meechai Ruchuphan said yesterday that the new Constitution is intended to make advancement within the police force more meritocratic, therefore increasing the organisation’s efficiency.
07:30 | Social Development and Human Security Minister, General Adul Saeingsingkaew, has met with representatives from public and private agencies to devise an anti-human trafficking plan for the second half of 2017. The meeting was also a response to the United States keeping Thailand on the Tier 2 watchlist in its Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report 2017.
09:00 | The National Council for the Social Welfare of Thailand (NCSWT) is organising a Mother’s Day celebration next month as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The event will feature a Mother’s Day poetry contest, a jasmine sale for charity, and ceremonies to honour mothers and children.
12:25 | The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) has organised ‘Startup Thailand 2017: Scale Up Asia’ to support entrepreneurs, experts, and digital nomads and improve the competitiveness of Thai startups in international markets.
15:27 | Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) and the Board of Trade of Thailand (BTT), Klin Sarasin, believes that government investment will facilitate continued economic growth in the second half of 2017. Sarasin believes that the 3.5 to 4 per cent economic growth rate forecast for this year is accurate.
16:55 | The National Health Security Office (NHSC) has announced that treatment for gastric, bone, and paediatric cancers will be free for NHSC Gold Card members from 2018 onwards.
18:26 | Thailand’s Commander of the Pha Muang Task Force, Major General Jiradech Kamolphetch, and Myanmar’s Commander of the Triangle Region Command, Major General Aung Zaw Aye, presided over a tree-planting activity along the border between Mae Sai district in Thailand and Tachileik in Myanmar. Over 1,000 people from both countries planted 2,000 trees during the event.
20:05 | Thailand and Russia have issued a stamp set to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the establishment of Thai-Russian relations. The stamps were released on July 3, the date when His Majesty King Rama V first visited Russia. Each stamp costs Bt3 (about US$0.08) in Thailand and 22 rubles ($0.38) in Russia.
