• Residents of Surin in Thailand’s northeast have commenced making artificial flowers in the shape of a daffodil, which will be given out to mourners during the funeral of the late king Bhumibol Adulyadej on October 26. The province aims to produce more than 700,000 funeral flowers.

Similar activity has commenced in other Thailand provinces with residents of Udon Thani municipality planning to produce 99,999 funeral flowers, while residents in Lopburi are aiming at completing 3,000. At Udon Thani Prison inmates have produced 999 flowers tosupport Udon Thani Province’s goal of producing 99,999 funeral flowers to honour the dead monarch.

• Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said that the NationalCouncil for Peace and Order (NCPO) will report its achievements and progress on tasks undertaken since it seized power on May 22, 2014, some time in September.

• The Thai Cabinet has agreed to a proposal that more nurses be registered as civil servants over the next three years. The Cabinet also approved 21 housing projects valued at more than Bt4.3 billion (about US$124.782 mil) for low income earners and signed an MoU on combatting transnational crime between Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

• Heavy rain and additional traffic as students return to school have combined to cause localised traffic jams on roads around some Bangkok schools. At some schools senior students are standing by to welcome their juniors and escort them to class, alleviating the need for parents to find somewhere to park wile they rush them inside.

• The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) has held a seminar on the causes of flooding as part of its goal of drafting a 20-year water management strategy.

• NBT takes a look at Echelon Thailand 2017, the largest technology conference in Asean, which was held in Bangkok yesterday and attracted more than 1,500 attendees from more than 20 countries.

• Thailand’s Department of Industry is seeking to partner with German public and private enterprises to help Thailand achieve its Thailand 4.0 strategy.
