00:40 | Thais from across the country continue to make funeral flowers ahead of the royal cremation of the late King Bhumibol Aduljadej. In Songkhla Province, the Office of the Free Trade Union of Thailand (OFTUT) for Region 4 delivered 1,739 funeral flowers and 5,000 marigolds to be used during the royal funeral, while the Saraburi Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) and Robinson Department Store have organised a funeral flower-making activity at their outlets.

02:10 | The Royal Gazette has published the Election Commission (EC) Act, which allows the current Election Commissioners to remain in their posts until new commissioners have been appointed. President of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, said that a selection panel will be formed and prospective candidates will be vetted by the NLA on December 12.

03:52 | Prime Minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, has expressed his appreciation for the national and military strategies for 2018-2037, proposed by the National Defense College of Thailand, and said that the strategy is in line with Thailand’s 20-year national strategy. He also urged an active crackdown on narcotics, corruption and deforestation.

05:20 | The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has passed the organic law for the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), despite disagreements about the required qualifications of the commissioners and the ‘set zero’ clause that requires all existing commissioners to be replaced. First Vice President of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), Surachai Liengboonlertchai, said that under the new organic law, current commissioners can stay in the office if a case requires them to remain as commissioners. The new organic law has yet to be endorsed by the Prime Minister.

06:47 | National Legislative Assembly (NLA) president, Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, said that he is confident that all organic bills will be ready in time for the next general election, and reiterated that the existing seven Election Commission (EC) commissioners will remain in office until their successors are elected and officially appointed.

Five new commissioners will be chosen by a selection committee and another two candidates will be appointed by the Supreme Court. Mr Wichitcholchai said that a formal notification has been sent out to all involved to complete the selection process within 90 days.

08:02 | The Police Commission has voiced its support for the decentralisation of power to regional command centres. According to the spokesperson for the Police and Justice System Reform Committee, Somkit Lertpaithoon, the decentralization will allow regional offices to transfer officers, manage its own budget, and internal administration to increase the efficiency of public services.

11:21 | The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has organized  Thailand Innovation and Design Expo 2017 (TIDE 2017), aimed at increasing the competitiveness of Thai businesses in line with the government’s ‘Thailand 4.0 agenda’. The expo — which features over a thousand products — will be held at Queen Sirikit Convention Center until September 17. Admission is free of charge.

14:40 | The Comptroller General Department (CGD) has said that patients are not required to pay a down payment to receive financial aid for medical emergencies.

Meanwhile, the National Health Security Office (NHSO) said that its decision to include haemophilia in its list of insured chronic illnesses has benefitted 1,519 patients in the country.

16:31 | The Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and the Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) has assisted in organising the ‘Food Ingredients Asia 2017’ fair at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Bitech) Bangna aimed at helping new entrepreneurs enter the food industry and promote the use of innovation to create food and beverage products. The fair, has attracted food and beverage ingredient entrepreneurs from 56 countries in Asia and over 700 booths.

17:38 | The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has published its Trade and Development Report 2016 in Bangkok. The report is expected to lead to an exchange of opinions and discussions about challenging issues in the global economy.
