• Referring to the drawn-out siege at Wat Dhammakaya Thailand Minister of Justice, Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana, said that authorities were duty bound to arrest fugitive former abbot Dhammajayo for his wrong doings, but meant no harm to Buddhism or the temple.

• While opening the Thailand Digital Government Vision 2017-2021 seminar Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has committed the government to building a digital platform for the exchange of government information within the next five years to provide better public service.

• Thailand’s Ministry of Defence says recent meetings between the government-appointed reconciliation committee and the Bhumjaithai Party, the Paradonphab Party, the Civil Peace Party, the Thai Social Democratic Party and the Pheu Thai Party, have been constructive and amiable with dialogue aimed at finding a way out of political conflict.

• The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) is planning to appoint more subcommittees to assist in the government’s national reform efforts. According to Yongyuth Sarasombat, Chairman of the NRSA committee on the reform of public administration, they are currently tackling four of 27 urgent reform initiatives earlier proposed by the government.

• The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MAC) and 11 organisations including the Agricultural Research Development Agency (ARDA) and the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) have pledged their support for development of a centralised agricultural research facility where data can be exchanged between interested stakeholders.

• As part of a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) to celebrate International Women’s Day 2017 – themed the power of women in the Thai economy –Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs Admiral Narong Pipatanasai presented plaques to recognise the efforts of 47 individuals and organisations for their work in promoting gender equality and protecting the rights of women.

• Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has opened a ‘Gold Card Station’ aimed at informing the public on the benefits of the government’s universal healthcare program has been established at Hua Lamphong Railway Station in an attempt to increase participation rates.

• Thailand Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed his delight at Thailand being ranked as the world’s least miserable nation by Bloomberg in its annual Misery Index and attributed the result to the work of government officials in reacting to peoples complaints.

• The success of the Thailand Mice Venue Standard (TMVS) has led all ten Asean tourism ministers to unanimously vote for Thailand to lead the development of the Asean Mice Venue Standard (AMVS).
