0:45 | King Maha Vajiralingkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has assigned Privy Councillor General Surayud Chulanont to perform royal prayer rites to honour Thailand’s past monarchs, and to bless Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign, ahead of this year’s Songkran festival. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Royal Plaza on the grounds of Dusit Palace, Sanam Suea Pa, on April 6 at 5:40 pm.

The King has also asked relevant agencies to organize a Thai New Year cultural fair at Dusit Palace between April 7 and 8 which will feature Songkran activities, cultural performances, and more.

2:03 | A Royal Thai Police (RTP) task force has predicted that about 10 million cars will be on the roads during the Songkran holidays this year, an increase by 7 per cent over the new year holiday period. To improve traffic conditions the police intend to ask drivers and owners of trucks with ten-wheels or more to keep them off the roads during the holiday period.

Police say they will also strictly enforce a ban of travelling in the back of pickup trucks for inter-provincial journeys.

Mr Jatusripitak placed an emphasis on the establishment of Industry Transformation Center’s (ITCs) across the country saying they will provide small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with access to the latest technology and innovations.

He urged the ministry to collaborate with the private sector to raise the standards of community products, with an aim of generating more income for 100 communities this year.

State-owned oil and gas giant PT Pertamina has admitted it is responsible for the spill, after denying so for the past several days.
