00:49 | Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha and his spouse, Naraporn Chan-o-cha, have accompanied a group of ministers to the Winter Festival. The festival is open until March 11 from 10.30am to 9pm (10pm on Fridays and Saturdays) and features exhibitions on important events that took place during the reign of King Rama V and King Rama IX. Traditional Thai dress is required to enter.

02:07 | The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has established a committee to revise the draft organic laws on Senator selection and MP election. The new committee will have 15 days to make revisions in response to the issues raised by the Election Commission (EC) and the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC). The bills will be sent back to the NLA by March 1.

03:52 | A Thai cultural promotion group including Thai traditional dancers will visit London, England from February 21-28 to strengthen Thai-UK bilateral relations and to project a good image of Thailand to the international community.

05:05 | General Anantaporn Kanjanarat, Minister of Social Development and Human Security (SDHS), on Thursday visited Kredtrakarn Protection and Occupational Development Centre in Nonthaburi Province to deliver the ministry’s policy on the protection of victims of human trafficking. The centre currently houses 172 women, 128 of whom are Thai.

06:22 | The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will continue its campaign against peddling at intersections to promote road safety and orderliness. The BMA is planning to impose a fine of Bt5,000 (about US$160) on hawkers at intersections and fine customers Bt2,000 ($64). Most peddlers are foreign workers who earn around Bt800 ($25) to Bt900 ($28) per day.

09:32 | Chinese-Thai people across the country have begun celebrating Chinese New Year 2018 (CNY2018). Newsline takes a look at celebrations across the country.

12:10 | Permanent secretary for Tourism and Sports, Pongpanu Svetarundra, has visited security officers at Don Mueang International Airport to inspect security arrangements for travellers during Chinese New Year (CNY). Between February 15-21 some 900,000 foreigners are expected to visit Thailand with 300,000 of them coming from China. Meanwhile, a group of 40 Chinese students and volunteers will help immigrations officials with interpretation services for visitors.

14:00 | In the wake of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) endorsing the Eastern Economic Corridor’s (EEC) law the Economic Intelligence Centre (EIC) of Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) has predicted a positive outlook for the aviation, logistics, robotics, and digital industries.

According to the bank, total spending on digital technology is projected to rise to Bt135 billion (about US$4.3 billion) in the year 2020, from Bt73 billion ($2.3 billion) in 2015.

15:48 | Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said that the Transport Company (TC), operator of the provincial bus service, recorded a profit of Bt16 million (about US$512,360) for the 2017 fiscal year, but he expects this to increase to as much as Bt120 million ($3.8 million) this year due to cost controls and a boost in package delivery services.

Mr Termpittayapaisith also said that the ministry is planning to help the Transport Company improve quality through the procurement of new first-class buses to replace the existing fleet.

20:13 | Thailand will host ‘Medical Devices ASEAN 2018’ between July 11-13 at Impact Muang Thong Thani with more than 150 examples of medical technology from manufacturers around the world expected to be on display including surgical tools, orthopedic rehabilitation devices, radiology equipment, information technology, and non-renewable medical materials. Some 4,000 people are expected to attend the event.
