00:45 | Thais have begun collecting commemorative coins struck to honour the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Treasury offices across the country. Coins can be collected until July 31.

02:43 | Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday denied that the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) was intent on postponing the general election.

General Chan-o-cha said whether or not the general election will take place in February 2019 depends on the legal process.

Meanwhile Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA), said the NLA’s decision to adjourn the effective date of the organic law governing the election of MPs by 90 days stemmed from the call by political parties’ for the primary vote system to be cancelled.

He said the cancellation can be made through an amendment to the already-enacted organic law on political parties, which would require at least 90 days to complete.

Therefore, the 90-day extension to the election time frame of 150 days, starting from the day the MP election law comes into effect, is considered by the legislature as appropriate, he added.

General Rajatanun urged the Airports of Thailand’s (AOT) to strictly enforce price control limits at the airport and called for vendors to sell more drinking water that is cheaper than Bt10 (about US$0.31) per bottle. The AOT has 180 days to tackle the issue.

Police general Tanitsak Teerasawat, special advisor to the Royal Thai Police (RTP), told the hearing that since December 8 last year 90 per cent of money taken from victims by illegal call centre gang’s, worth more than Bt20 million (about $635 thousand), had been transferred into the Bitcoin system.
