As of 01:30 GMT March 14 there was 387 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 108 on the day prior.

The most number of active cases remain in Malaysia, where 39 new cases yesterday saw the number of people with active COVID-19 infections rise to 165, with four people reported to be in a serious or critical condition.

Indonesia yesterday saw the largest single day increase across the region, adding 35 new cases to push its active COVID-19 caseload to 60, while 13 new cases in Singapore yesterday saw its total active COVID-19 cases rise 103, 11 of which are listed as serious or critical. Indonesia was the only Asean country to record COVID-19 deaths yesterday, with three people succumbing to the disease.

In Brunei 12 new cases yesterday saw the number of active COVID-19 cases there jump to 37, while 12 new cases in the Philippines yesterday saw the number of active COVID-19 cases there jump to 57, one of which is regarded as serious or critical.

In Thailand five new COD-19 cases saw the number of active cases there rise to 39, one of which is classified as serious or critical, while five new cases in Vietnam saw the total active COVID-19 cass there increase to 28.

Two additional cases in Cambodia yesterday saw its total number of active cases rise to six, while Laos PDR and Myanmar are yet to report a single COVID-19 case.

There has been 693 cases of COVID-19 recorded in Asean member countries, with 188 people having been treated and discharged. Ten people of died from COVID-19 in Asean member countries.

Global COVID-19 cases up to March 13

The number of new COVID-19 cases globally rose 8.21 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 145,627, an increase of 11,050.

This is the largest single day increase in new cases since February 12 when a change in calculating methods used by China saw a massive spike in confirmed cases over a 24-hour period. The calculating method was changed again the following day.

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 increased 8.81 per cent DoD to 5,421, an increase of 439, the majority (250) in Italy. China reported no deaths during the period. 

Meanwhile the number of people treated and discharged continued to decline, increasing by 2,019, or 2.92 per cent over the day prior to 71,161.

As of 01:30 GMT March 14 there was 69,045 active cases globally, of which some nine per cent or 6,082 cases were classified as serious or critical.

Based on completed cases, (number of discharged + number of dead), the current case mortality rate is 7 per cent.

At the current rate there will be/ have been more than 600,000 cases by the end of March, and almost 25,000 deaths.
