As of 01:40 GMT March 15 there was 623 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the 10 Asean member countries, an increase of 128 on the day prior.

The most number of active cases remain in Malaysia, where 41 new cases yesterday saw the number of people with active COVID-19 infections rise to 203, with four people reported to be in a serious or critical condition.

Three deaths in the Philippines yesterday saw the total there increase to eight, with 47 new cases there pushing the total number of active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines to 101, one of which is said to be in a serious or critical condition.

In Indonesia, the only other Asean member state to record a COVID-19 death yesterday, the number of people killed stands at five, with 27 new cases yesterday increasing to 83 the number of active cases. None are said to be serious or critical.

Twelve new cases in Singapore yesterday saw the number of active COVID-19 cases there hit 107, with 11 people said to be in a serious or critical condition.

Vietnam yesterday recorded nine fresh COVID-19 cases, bringing its total active caseload to 37, nine fewer than Thailand where seven new cases there pushed its active COVID-19 patient list to 46, one of which is said to be serious or critical. Meanwhile, in Brunei three new cases saw the number of active COVID-19 cases there hit 40.

Cambodia reported no fresh cases over the past 24-hours, leaving its active case list at six, while Laos PDR and Myanmar are yet to report a single COVID-19 case.

There has now been 839 confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded in Asean member countries, with 202 people having been treated and discharged. Forteen people have died from COVID-19 in Asean member countries.

Global COVID-19 cases up to March 15

The number of new COVID-19 cases globally rose 7.60 per cent day-on-day (DoD) to 156,533, an increase of 11,050.

This is the largest single day increase in new cases since February 12 when a change in calculating methods used by China saw a massive spike in confirmed cases over a 24-hour period. The calculating method was changed again the following day.

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 increased 7.48 per cent DoD to 5,835, an increase of 406, the majority (175) in Italy. China reported 10 deaths during the period. 

Meanwhile the number of people treated and discharged jumped by 4.761, or 6.69 per cent over the day prior to 75,922.

As of 01:40 GMT March 15 there was 74,830 active cases of COVID-19 globally, of which some eight per cent or 5,692 cases were classified as serious or critical.

Based on completed cases, (number of discharged + number of dead), the current case mortality rate is 7 per cent.

At the current rate there will be/ have been more than 540,000 cases by the end of March, and almost 20,000 deaths.
