Seven Michelin Star Chefs Head Bangkok's 18th World Gourmet Festival

Bangkok gourmands are in for a treat next month when seven Michelin star winning chefs join with four other internationally celebrated chefs for the 18th annual World Gourmet Festival at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel.

Held for the last 17 years the World Gourmet Festival has established itself as Thailand’s, if not Asean’s, premier fine dining festival. This year the organisers have excelled with 11 chefs from eight countries participating in the highly anticipated event between September 4-10.

The 11 chefs will host two dinners each in one of the hotel’s award winning restaurants – Madison, Spice Market, Shintaro, and Biscotti – with fringe events held in the hotel’s iconic lobby and Aqua Bar.

As Thailand eagerly awaits the publishing later this year of the first Bangkok edition of the Michelin Guide, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel and Italian mineral water and real-juice soda bottler, Sanpellegrino S.p.A (S.Pellegrino), have teamed up to ensure that peoples taste buds are not left neglected in the meantime.

Leading the all-star list of master chefs will be French chef Guillaume Galliot from the two Michelin star winning Caprice restaurant at the Four Seasons, Hong Kong, and Japanese master chef Shinichiro Takagi, whose family-owned restaurant Zeniya in Kanazawa, Japan, has also been awarded two of the highly coveted Michelin stars.

Miguel Laffan from L’AND Vineyards in Alentejo, Portugal (1 Michelin star)
Christian and Manuel Costardi from Ristorante Christian e Manuel in Vercelli, Italy (1 Michelin star)
Jason Tan: from Corner House Singapore (1 Michelin star)
Hiroaki Ishizuka from Kien in Tokyo, Japan (1 Michelin star)
Anatoly Kazakov from Selfie Restaurant & Bar in Moscow, Russia (The World’s 50 Best Restaurants)
Jock Zonfrillo from Restaurant Orana in Adelaide, Australia (Australia’s Top Restaurants)
Bobby Chinn from Restaurant Bobby Chinn in Hanoi, Vietnam

As has occurred in past years Vietnamese chef Bobby Chinn – who is also a television personality back home – will close the 18th World Gourmet Festival on September 10 with a World Gourmet Brunch, entertaining dinners with his own band in between churning out culinary delights.

To help ease the conscious, but not the waist line of those participating in such lavish gastronomy Bt600 (about US$18) from the ticket price together with the proceeds from an auction, will be donated to the HRH Princess Soamsawali AZT Fund for distribution by the Thai Red Cross Society to pregnant women in need as part of Anantara’s CSR programme.

For those wanting to immerse themself in luxury and gastronomy simultaneously Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel has put together a special three night accommodation package comprising a daily buffet breakfast for two people, daily World Gourmet Festival dinner for two people, and 15 per cent saving on Anantara Spa treatments starting at Bt19,100* ($575*) for a deluxe room, through to Bt37,100* ($1,118*) for a one bedroom suite.
